Input Time!
« on: November 08, 2011, 10:26:32 PM »
And now friends, it's time for another installment of "Input Time"! First, let's take a look at exibit "A" first! http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/mld/msg/2692652499.html

Now, personally I don't care who it's signed by (least of all George Thorogood), I say, no way! Just my humble opinion.

Next, Let's look at exibit "B"!
http://www.zzounds.com/item--EPISPII (pick vintage sunburst.)

What say you? (assuming the ads are still active of course.)

I've seen so many "signed" guitars post up on CL.  Signatures aren't worth anything unless you're the one who had it signed and its worth something to you.  Who in the right mind would pay $600 for $120 guitar?

i wouldn't pay $120 for a $6000 guitar off of craig's list. i don't know craig. i don't know how he's treated his guitars. i don't care about his list...i have enough lists of my own. i never like to get 'surprise packages' for christmas, either. i sometimes like 'surprises' i find in my old storage boxes, but i already paid for that.  not me...second the 'no way'. when i grow up, i want to follow in andy rooney's footsteps, and crack on these people who try to sell 'auditioned by lady gaga' underwear, tiaras and used meat.

i watch 'antiques roadshow'. i enjoy the heck out of the people and stuff they bring in. those  twin brothers get so excited about old furniture, they make me get a little excited by it.  it's amazing to me how many things are 'collectible'. maybe it's coz i'm an old furt....i'm doing good to collect a couple meals each day and collect 6 or maybe a little more hours of sleep each night. i like to watch antiques roadshow, but pay for that stuff??? hahahhaha....my ex wife had an aunt who collected hummels or kimmels or some %^&* like that. for what?? psychological analysis must follow of the 'collecting sufferer'. it might not be pretty.

Well Reb, ol' Craig's been pretty good to me when I'm on the buyin' side of  the fence, like the nice Squier "Pro Tone" Strat I got for $75 and sold it for $250 after only doin' a setup and puttin' a set of strings on it. Or this $100 package I got from these folks that included two decent guitars (electric), a Peavey amp a older Zoom pedal and a Cry Baby wah pedal. Sold everything (except the amp which went to my son) after cleaning up the stuff, for a total of $365. Not bad. These days, when I try to sell stuff (much of it left over from my band practice facility days) it's another story. Anyway, it's anything goes these days on CL. Personally, I love to play my guitars and I don't want anybody's signature on my guitar(s).
Yeah DB, it's kinda funny how a lot of these "autographed" guitars are the cheapest, laminated plywood, Home Depot  versions these folks can find at that.

I bought a 1971 Epiphone 6735 12 String acoustic for $25 off CL and sold it for $125 on Ebay (plus shipping).  I also bought one of my pickups on the 140 from CL too.

actually being from new castle county, delaware,  (where lonesome george is from)  i've met him several times.    i wouldn't pay for his autograph, because i'm not a fan. but carrying a cheap guitar to a show in order to get an autograph is the new thing. used to be done so you could afford to have an autographed guitar on yer wall.  now it's done so you can flip it  and make a few bucks. maybe pay for the show, and the buzz, as well as cover the cheap guitar they never learned how to play.

zag, i have the sales skill of a hooded cobra....this is likely why i don't look at stuff like cl as fodder for resale. if i had better sales skills, i might have a different view. if i 'buy it', most likely i'm going to be stuck with it.

for that matter, if there are 300 dozen socks in a pile on sale at walmart, i can pick the two pair that have staples in the weave, ebola virus or permanent stinky smell to take home, wash, and wear. i have no sense of smell, and would never know why people got away from me on the street. :)

I can dig it Reb. I don't know, I can't help myself sometimes I guess. I'm about the same. I'm still "stuck" with a few items, but what can you do? CL is my best alternative right now,  not to mention a local ebay affiliate.  I still have stuff from my band practice facility days to get rid of.

the thing that keeps me from trying, zag, is 'stranger faces'.  once in awhile, i hear of someone selling something, and 'this guy from town x' comes to look. in a month, they are burgled, or they have an identity theft.  the consequences of some fool breaking in while i'm home are something i'd rather avoid. the best way to do that is to not have strangers around.

i have come to the conclusion, if there's something i am not using, and i want to move it, i will donate to something like 'guitars for veterans', or a high school music group. i have sold a couple guitars and amps over the years through those local classified 'free' ad papers, but it coulda been a 'situation'.  i quit doing that.
