Any suggestions on getting a primitive overdrive ,tube breakup sound ,in the style of  Hound  Dog Taylor, on my Superchamp xd?

Did you try any of the voice settings #'s 1-3 (tweed) with tremolo while using the 2nd channel? Or even voice setting #4, which is Blackface. That might give you what you're lookin' for.

Using a tweed setting, probably number 3, then turn the tone knob of the neck pickup down and play....
