Sometimes but normally I use the Line Out on my Line 6 Spider Jam and to Line in on my computer. Or I record it directly on my Spider Jam and can transfer it to the computer afterwards if I need to or I can just Jam along with the track playing from the amp.
That amp is so versatile. When my wife is singing ::) she is singing through the amp but not so we can hear it from the amps speaker but again Line out from the amp to the computer. The amp have a XLR Connection for Microphones so Im using it as a pre amp.
Hope that makes sense.

Yeh thanks Klaus that makes sense, I don't think I have seen a Spider Jam Amp.
My first amp was a Line6 Spider3 15watt & it was the worst sounding amp I have ever heard, very artificial tones.
I just checked out online looks cool 75 watts 12" Celestion etc.
All the music you post is done on the Spider Jam?

i have audacity.  what i need is a way to add effects.  i've tried several different versions of guitar rig, but have yet to actually make it  do anything

I use a Line 6 Pocket Pod.  You can output the sound from the computer back into the POD, then record that.
