Ran an 8 K race today in minus 19 Celsius
« on: November 20, 2010, 06:23:19 PM »
For you guys in the US, that's about minus 2 F... cold!

I had to run hard to keep warm... my toes still got numb. I won the race though, but it was a hard effort. Caught up to the leader with 300 meters to go....

It was a fundraiser event for Arthritis.

I can barely move in that low of a temperature. I can't imagine trying to run!

Congrats on your win!

Yea, the long underwear, parka, snow boots etc do get in the way.  Congratulations Robert!  Seriously, how do you do that?  Do you generate enough BTU’s to stay warm?  ???

Just wear wind-proof clothing and keep moving... then you'll be warm, no problem.

Running like that makes you wonder if its worth it?  I've run plenty of times when its freezing, but seriously, -19c?  Thats just too cold.  Keeping body temp is one thing, its the thin air that will make most people fall out....  amazing job to anyone who finished, let alone win!

Once you get going, it's fine. You produce heat when you run so as long as your face isn't exposed too much no problem.

However, today we have -31 Celsius, so I ain't running outside today! That's too cold, even for me.  :'(
