Joe Bonamassa is a blues rock titan, whose guitar playing is always inspiring. He has great technique, both alternate picking and legato style. Here is a Bonamassa-inspired lick, that uses more legato style playing than alternate picking. With practice, you will be able to play this fast, but start out slow and methodically. It is important you play it clean and without extra string noise, or it will not sound good at all. Joe has a very clean technique, and he always plays super hip notes when he's playing fast guitar riffs and licks. Enjoy!
For the tone, I used a Hell Zerodot from Hell Guitars and a Line 6 POD HD300.

Comment added on June 23, 2011Great lesson, as usual, Robert!
I'm going to explore this lick further, so where can I get the tab for it? Thanks again!!
Great lick! Very well explained...but...I believe your slow examples that start at 1:45 and 2:10 have 4 less notes than your examples that start at 2:23 and 2:30.
