Slowing down songs is another great way to learn from records and your song collection. I use Song Surgeon, which works really well for this. Check it out.

Guitar Lesson Overview

This a nice, swinging blues lick in the style of B.B King. I consider it a staple lick that everyone should know. You can play this lick over almost any kind of blues - it will always sound great.

BB King would probably play the FIRST note being A, instead of G as in my example. It really doesn't matter much - it's just a matter of preference.

Try this lick over different tempos, as well as over different keys. You want to be able to throw in this lick anywhere when you blues lead. Try to also change something with it. Perhaps add a note here or there, to make it your own. For example, you can add the note C (13th fret on B string) on the "4 and", just before that whole-step bend. Enjoy!

Guitar used: Hagstrom Viking. Guitar tone created with a Line 6 POD HD500.

Want more? My Bar Blues 1 DVD has 24 great blues licks that you can learn a lot from. The DVD (the digital download has the same content) is all about good sounding blues licks, just like this one. Click here to find out more.
