Slowing down songs is another great way to learn from records and your song collection. I use Song Surgeon, which works really well for this. Check it out.

Guitar Lesson Overview

This lesson shows you how to take the A minor arpeggio and chord tones - just as Carlos Santana did on Oye Como Va, and turn it into a cool phrase. This approach to improvising and creating melodic ideas is how I play. This WILL work for you too! This is a great way to approach playing lead guitar - take a break from that scale approach for a little while. Then COMBINE arpeggios, triads, chord tones WITH the scale knowledge you probably already have. This will OPEN up your playing, I promise. Hope you enjoy this lesson! This is inspired by the song Oye Como Va.

I used a Hell Guitar Zerodot and a Line 6 HD500 for the tone. If you have the HD500, you can download my patch from the Line 6 Customtone website.

Get the HD500 patch here - http://line6.com/customtone/tone/216535/ NOTE - I turned off the wah and the fuzz, and turned on the compressor.

Order the HD500 from Amazon

I use Guitar Pro for most of my video lessons. It is a great product that will not only show you the notes in both TAB and standard notation, you will also HEAR them being played at the same you see them. Very helpful for learning! Click the link below to try the free demo.

Order Guitar Pro 6, and also get our guitar-playing method for free.

Video Clips

I have lots of gear demos too on this site. Go and take a look at some of my Guitar Videos for some examples of gear I use or have used.
