Guitar Lesson Overview
Here's a lick in a typical Robert Renman style. It's using the E Dorian sound, but if you bend that minor 3rd up a bit to the major 3rd, you get the Mixolydian, theoretically speaking. It doesn't matter what you call it though! Just go for the notes and phrases that sound cool.
Also, note that the lick has an E Minor triad in it (5-3-1), which makes it sound more melodic. I have found that I often interject triads into my playing - I do it a lot! I don't think about it - it just happens.
