Marshall tone in a 5-watt combo? Yep, this all-tube combo uses a streamlined feature set to give you a Bluesbreaker-style aesthetic with Plexi-style control setup. The preamp has a pair of ECC83 tubes for preamp distortion. The power section of the Class5 uses a single EL84, which gives you classic Class A vibe. This combo is extremely responsive to adjustments to the guitar's volume and tone controls. Big sound in a small package, very cool! The Marshall Class5 sounds especially good with a humbucker guitar, in my case the Hagstrom Swede Gold Top. You can also see how I'm adjusting the Suhr Classic guitar's volume contro in several spots, and the amp reacts nicely to it. Back off the volume a bit, and a nice classy tone shows up. Turn up the guitar volume, and a bit of crunch appears! Marshall Class5 5W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp BlackComment on this? |

Thanks, Paul and Terry. This little thing has a lot of guts, that is for certain. Comment added on June 21, 2010Terry said... Top demo Robert as always... have been checking this amp out over the past few weeks and this is by a mile the best demo of the Class 5... I've owned and gigged several Marshall Valve Amps in the past and never could understand why they bothered anyway in putting on tone controls... don't need 'em!!! I'm also going to check out the Marshall Haze amps especially the one with EL34 power tubes... love their sound too. I have the Epi Valve Junior [1 EL84 & an ecc83] but this amp, the Class 5, sounds way better to my ears but then it is more expensive and has the 10" speaker. Cheers Robert... this is a brilliant site for guitarists. Comment added on June 21, 2010Paul said...
